Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in 4 People Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a gunfire incident that took place on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area just as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.

Background

Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about Howe Community Park at about 6:30 Saturday evening after receiving reports of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in concerning a potential altercation breaking out inside the park.

Air support scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.

When the Shots Rang Out

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems ordering attendees to go home. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Officers wasted no time in searching for victims.

Those Who Were Hit

When the dust settled, four shooting victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — comprising three Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 men and one woman each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Emergency physicians indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four were expected to survive.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department arrived on scene and helped care for shooting victims at the park.

Crime Scene Evidence

The main crime scene seemed to have been concentrated on the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators identified additional shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot. These findings pointed to that one of the gunmen had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location late into the evening.

Arrests Made

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four individuals were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for questioning. Video evidence confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
